Horyu-ji is one of the oldest temples in Japan and dates back to the early 7th century. It was among the first UNESCO World Heritage sites to be registered in Japan.
Perhaps best-known for its huge statue of Buddha, this temple is notable as having the largest wooden building in the world. Todai-ji also retains extensive temple grounds that are home to a number of well-known attractions.
